Our 9-Month Journey: Preparing Our Kids for the Taekwondo Competition
Last October, Han Taekwondo officially launched its specialized Elite Team class. We began with just 8 students—a small, dedicated group stepping into a challenging commitment. Elite training isn't for everyone; it demands physical stamina, mental toughness, self-discipline, and the drive to push past personal limits.

In South Korea, young athletes typically train for over two hours every single day. However, balancing academic demands and busy schedules here in Singapore called for a more tailored approach. We designed a high-intensity, highly focused program: one action-packed hour per week.
Our goal was never just about chasing trophies. If winning medals had been our sole objective, the vision would have been flawed from the start. What I truly wanted to see was growth—a space where passionate kids could train side by side, inspire one another, and elevate their limits together.
Physical exhaustion is inevitable, and mental hurdles are part of the process. Whether it is pushing past fatigue, handling a setback during sparring, or facing a loss in a match, these moments test their spirit. Yet, by confronting these challenges and picking themselves back up, our students develop true resilience. Along the way, they also gain a deeper, more specialized mastery of sparring tactics and match management.
Week after week, from October through July, these kids dedicated themselves to 9 full months of rigorous preparation.
On July 26th, they finally stepped onto the mats at the Grand Slam Youth Competition 2026 in Singapore and put on an incredible display of skill and heart. In sports, physical conditions or match variables can sometimes dictate the outcome regardless of effort. But the score was never what mattered most.

What truly mattered was that not a single student gave up. They completed the grueling journey, stood proudly on the mats, and poured all their energy into every moment. Every single one of them walked away a true champion. Seeing them come together as one unified Team Han Taekwondo was the most rewarding sight of all.

My hope is that these precious experiences serve as strong stepping stones for our kids. May they carry these lessons forward, stay resilient, and shine with their own unique confidence as they navigate the wider world ahead.
